We’ve all been in that meeting.
You’re trying to move something forward, and suddenly someone drops:
“Yeah, but this is probably going to fail because…”
Cue the slow emotional drain of the entire room.
Negativity isn’t the real problem, though. Unchanneled negativity is.
Because buried inside most “that won’t work” comments is actually useful data. If you ignore potential problems in favor of overly positive thinking, that's a cognitive bias called "The Overconfidence Bias", and it kills successful implementations.
Here’s a simple way to reframe that "Eeyore" moment into something useful:
Write down all the "what could go wrongs"
Prioritize those potential problems based on likelihood and seriousness
List actions to prevent those "what could go wrongs"
List actions to minimize the damage if they happen anyway
Now you’ve turned a momentum-killer into forward motion.
